چکیده

That Ca is decreased and K increased in cancerous tissues as compared to the corresponding normal ones, has hitherto been reported by many workers.110> DeLong et al.5 1 reported that the diminution in Ca content is peculiar to cancer and responsible for the decreased mutual adhesiveness of cancer cells. They also reported that the increased K content is merely one of the expressions of cellular multiplication, since increase in K is found in actively growing tissues, whether cancerous or noncancerous. The lowered Na content of cancers was also observed by them. However, all these studies were performed with cancer tissues containing stroma. The present author attempted to determine the content of Ca, Na, and Kin cancer cells themselves, using ascites hepatoma and to make clear the biological significance of these cations.

The effect of plant growth promoting potentials of rhizosphere bacteria isolated from several halophytic species on vegetative growth and ionic content of wheat

Salinity stress is an important challenge for wheat production in the world. Plant growth promoting rhizosphere bacteria, isolated from halophytic plants, can increase the tolerance of crop plants to salinity by direct and indirect mechanisms. In this study, plant growth-promoting traits of bacterial strains (Bacillus safensis, Bacillus pumilus and Zhihengliuella halotolerans), isolated from th...

Determination of some seminal plasma indices, sperm density and sperm motility in the Persian sturgeon Acipenser persicus

Some biological aspects of semen were investigated in the Persian sturgeon, Acipenser persicus, by determination of seminal plasma indices (ionic composition and osmolality), sperm density and their relationships with sperm motility. The osmolality of seminal plasma ranged from 42.00 to 111.00 mOsmol Kg-1. The concentrations of Sodium (Na+), Potassium (K+), Chloride (Cl-), Calcium (Ca2+) and Ma...

GROWTH RESPONSE AND CATION - INTERACTION IN HIPPOPHAE RHAMNOIDES L

The interaction between sodium and calcium, magnesium and calcium and the combined effect of sodium, magnesium and calcium was observed on the growth and ion uptake of Hippophae rhamnoides L. The results demonstrated that an addition of sodium with calcium, (set a, Na 2.5 + Ca 5 mM) showed prominent increase in fresh weight of roots and shoots. The dry weight (average) of roots decreased an...
